International Field Study Overview
Day 1 – OCTOBER 19: Begin your adventure by departing from the DJP or Welland Campus with your travel group, bags packed and excitement in the air! Catch some sleep on the overnight flight, as an exciting journey awaits. This is a long travel day. Be prepared with snacks and water!

Day 2 – OCTOBER 20: Arrive in Iceland for a brief layover before continuing to Sweden. Once in Sweden, collect your luggage and board the bus bound for Stockholm. Upon arriving in Stockholm, enjoy a delightful group lunch before embarking on a guided tour of the local area around your accommodations. Prepare to dive into the rich culture and stunning landscapes of Sweden. The evening is yours to enjoy a free night for dinner.

Day 3 – OCTOBER 21: Kick off your day with a hearty hotel breakfast. After breakfast, gain insights into corporate sustainability strategies, supply chain management practices, and social responsibility initiatives with potential visits to IKEA, H&M, and other notable companies. Take advantage of your free time for lunch. Post-lunch set off on a Stockholm City Tour, where you’ll visit key attractions, including the Old Town of Stockholm, the bustling streets of Drottninggatan and Kungsgatan, and the scenic Kungsträdgården. Enjoy a free evening!

Day 4 – OCTOBER 22: Start your day with a delicious hotel breakfast before embarking on an insightful exploration of the Stockholm Royal Seaport, a cutting-edge urban development project showcasing sustainable living. Discover energy-efficient buildings, green spaces, and renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. Take some free time for lunch. Afterward, tour The Royal Palace in Stockholm, a magnificent architectural masterpiece and the official residence of the Swedish monarch. After this enriching cultural experience, head back to the hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening for dinner.

Day 5 – OCTOBER 23: Kick off your day with a wonderful hotel breakfast to energize you for the adventures ahead. We’ll then set out to explore Skansen Outdoor Museum, the world’s oldest open-air museum, which showcases Sweden’s rich heritage through houses and farmsteads from every region of the country. Afterward, enjoy some free time for lunch. In the afternoon, our group will visit ABBA The Museum, where you can immerse yourself in the music, costumes, lyrics, musicals, and films of Sweden’s iconic band. Test your skills with an impersonation of ABBA on the karaoke stage, dance along, and enjoy a virtual reality experience that offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their legendary world. Unwind and explore dinner options at your own pace tonight.

Day 6 – OCTOBER 24: Fuel up with a delightful hotel breakfast. The group departs the hotel to attend an on-site consulting project. Afterwards, enjoy a free lunch. After lunch, embark on an insightful journey into sustainable urban planning and environmental consulting with a visit to Sweco. As a leading multidisciplinary consulting firm, Sweco specializes in innovative solutions for landscape architecture, ecological planning, and engineering. Take advantage of your free time to uncover local dining gems for dinner – enjoy!

Day 7 – OCTOBER 25: Join us for a morning hotel meal that sets the stage for an exciting day! Experience the beauty and sustainability of Rosendals Trädgård, a renowned biodynamic garden and café nestled on Djurgården island in Stockholm. Immerse yourselves in organic gardening practices, fruit orchards, and flower fields while learning about sustainable horticulture and food production. Next up, free time for lunch.
After lunch, enjoy a journey full of beautiful attractions and fascinating stories. At the same time, you can relax and take in the famous scenery of the archipelago while relaxing on the Archipelago Boat Tour. The night is yours to explore and enjoy a dinner that excites your taste buds!

Day 8 – OCTOBER 26: Remember to grab breakfast in our hotel before we embark on an exciting day trip to Sigtuna and Uppsala!
Sigtuna, located in the Sigtuna Municipality in Stockholm County, has a population of 9,689. Although the municipality’s seat is in another locality, Märsta, Sigtuna is historically called a “stad.” Next, we’ll head to Uppsala, the county seat of Uppsala County and the fourth-largest city in Sweden, following Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. Uppsala Castle, originally built by King Gustav Vasa, has served as a royal residence and has undergone several expansions throughout history, establishing Uppsala as a secondary capital of Sweden.
Enjoy some free time for lunch and dinner during our visit!

Day 9 – OCTOBER 27: Break your fast at breakfast in the hotel. Bid farewell to Stockholm as you prepare for your departure, carrying with you memories of a journey filled with exploration, enlightenment, and appreciation for the city’s rich heritage and commitment to sustainability. Depart with a newfound understanding of the interplay between nature, innovation, and community in this vibrant Scandinavian capital. This is a long travel day. Be prepared with snacks and water!

* Price per student is in Canadian Dollars and reflects the Be World Ready (BWR) grant which has been applied to the total trip cost to heavily subsidize the rate per person. To qualify for the full value of the BWR grant, students must be enrolled in, and successfully complete the Be World Ready course (learn about the BWR course by clicking here). Assignments, travel requirements, and expectations will be clearly communicated by BWR staff prior to the start of term. Students who do not successfully complete the course risk not meeting the grant requirements, which could result in being charged back the full value of the grant (up to $6000, depending on the IFS).
